Things to do
Explore the Beaches of the West Coast
Koh Lanta features some of the most wonderful postcard-perfect beaches on its West Coast. From the aptly named Long Beach in the North, which is best for restaurants and bars, to the very peaceful and empty beaches in the South such as Kantiang Bay and Waterfall Bay. As a general rule the beaches get quieter from North to South. Grab a tuk-tuk or rent a scooter and head down to Waterfall Bay and you can combine an exhilarating trek to the waterfall with a well-earned snooze on the deserted beach. Perfect.
Take a Day Trip to the Trang Islands
One of the absolute standout attractions of visiting this part of Thailand is the opportunity to see the stunning Emerald Cave. It's situated on a tiny island called Koh Muk and is part of a four island tour available from Koh Lanta. It features a typically emerald-watered beach but with a twist; it is only accessible by swimming through an eerie cave. It is a truly unique life experience that has to be seen to be believed. The Trang islands are beautiful and quiet so you can expect your typical picturesque empty beaches and idyllic snorkelling spots for the rest of your trip while you digest the majesty of the Emerald Cave.
Visit the National Park
At the Southernmost point of the island you'll find the National Park - a protected area with stunning scenery. There is a 200 Baht entry fee but it's well worth it considering you're not likely to be sharing it's stunning, white sandy beach with many others. Take a walk along the peninsula and down to the lighthouse for a highly photo-friendly, panoramic vista of the crystal blue Andaman sea. Be on the lookout for wildlife including the monkeys, who can be a little cheeky so watch out for them going through your belongings looking for food!
