Things to do
Fujairah Museum
The Fujairah Museum, based in Fujairah City is a real cultural gem and a must-visit for all those interested in unpacking a little more of Fujairah’s heritage. Full to the brim with fascinating archaeological finds from local sites from Badiyah, Qidfa and Dibba, the museum offers a great historical perspective on this destination.
Lose yourself in collections of ornate Bedouin jewellery, earthenware, tools, crafts, weapons and artwork, but don’t forget to take in the building itself, which is suitably impressive. The two regal halls are dripping with intricate chandeliers, whilst the exterior provides some great photo opportunities.
Jazīrat al Ghubbah
Jazīrat al Ghubbah or ‘Snoopy Island’ is an island located near Al Aqah, Fujairah, which resembles the famous cartoon character, Snoopy, on top of his doghouse. Not just excellent for world-class views above the surface of the water, the prospect of snorkelling or diving here is packed with the promise of excitement and discovery.
A scuba diving or snorkelling trip will reveal myriad marine species. From shoals of shimmering mackerel to gently gliding green turtles, moray eels, and colourful corals, there is so much to take in underwater at Snoopy Island.
Sheikh Zayed Mosque
The second largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates (after the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi), this attraction and place of worship is around the size of three football pitches and can hold over 30,000 people. Of course, it’s not just the sheer size of the mosque that turns heads - the gorgeous architecture and gardens are quite the sight to behold.
The interior of the mosque is not actually open to non-muslims for sightseeing, but the exterior is well worth seeing. The courtyard, grounds, and fountains are enchanting whilst the silhouette of the 100-metre-high minarets are emblematic of Fujairah.
